ANNUAL REPORT 2024-25

College History


  • The establishment of Tau Devi Lal Government College for Women, Murthal, was approved on June 23, 2003, by the then Chief Minister, Shri Om Prakash Chautala Ji. 5

  • The word "Murthal" originated from "Muni Sthal," which means "the place of sages." 6

  • There are temples of Lord Shiva, Hanuman, and Kali Maa here. 7

  • The motto of Tau Devi Lal Government College for Women, Murthal, is "Vidya Dhanam Sarva Dhan Pradhanam" (Knowledge is the supreme of all wealth). 8

  • The college offers undergraduate (pass course), undergraduate (Geography Hons.), and postgraduate (English) courses in the Faculty of Arts. 9

  • Undergraduate (pass course) and postgraduate courses are available in the Faculty of Commerce. 10

  • Undergraduate (non-medical) and postgraduate (Geography) courses are available in the Faculty of Science. 11

  • In the 2024-25 session, 857 students were admitted to this college. 12

  • 649 students are pursuing education at the undergraduate level and 208 at the postgraduate level. 13


College Staff


  • The college has one Principal, 34 Associate/Assistant Professors, one Deputy Superintendent, one Assistant, one Clerk, two Laboratory Attendants, one Library Attendant, two Helpers, two Gardeners, and one Cleaning Staff working on a permanent basis. 14

  • Two Extension Lecturers, one Computer Lab Attendant, one Trainer for the Language Lab, one Stenographer, one Restorer, and one Watchman are working on a contract basis. 15


Building Construction


  • The magnificent two-story building of the college was constructed under the supervision of the Progressive Education Committee, Murthal. 16

  • This building has a total of 24 rooms, including the Principal's office, staff room, administrative office, seminar hall, classrooms, women's cell, gym, library, reading room, EDUSAT room, two computer labs, one language lab, three geography labs, one psychology lab, two smart classrooms, and a common room for students. 17

  • Additionally, the Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Science Building was constructed by the Government of Haryana, which has 8 laboratories, 2 smart classrooms, and teaching rooms. 18

College Registrar


  • The Registrar for college examinations and all other university-related work is Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Assistant Professor (Sanskrit). 28

  • The results of the university-conducted examinations during the 2024-2025 session were excellent. 29


Sports


  • A sound mind resides in a sound body, therefore, various sports activities and competitions were organized for the college students throughout the year. 30

  • The in-charge of sports in the college is Shri Rohit Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce. 31

  • The college students have performed commendably in many sports competitions at the district, university, and national levels. 32

  • On January 28, 2025, the 21st Annual Sports Competition was grandly organized in the college. 33

  • Approximately 150 students participated in 12 different sports competitions. 34

  • At the end of the competition, Varsha Kaushik, a third-year undergraduate student, was honored with the "Best Player" award. 35

  • In addition, Kumari Aarti Saroha, a first-year undergraduate student of the college, brought honor to the college by winning a bronze medal by securing third place in the inter-university wrestling competition in the 58 kg weight category. 36

  • This achievement filled everyone with pride and joy. 37


Important Day Celebrations


  • The in-charge of Important Day Celebrations is Smt. Sangeeta, Assistant Professor (Department of Geography). 38 The following activities were organized for this purpose:

  • On August 6, 2024, the Teej festival was organized, which included cultural programs like swinging on a swing, applying henna, and singing and dancing. 39This event was organized with the support of the Women's Committee and the Cultural Committee. 40

  • From August 11, 2024, to August 15, 2024, the "Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan" (Tricolor at Every Home Campaign) was run, under which a tricolor rally was taken out from the campus of Tau Devi Lal Government College for Women. 41Along with this, freedom fighters, brave families, and local leaders were invited, and a tricolor pledge ceremony was organized. 42All students were also encouraged to take a tricolor selfie on

    www.harghartiranga.com. 43This campaign was run in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) of the college campus. 44

  • On August 15, 2024, the college head, Dr. Seema Thakran, hoisted the flag. 45

  • On September 10, 2024, "World Suicide Prevention Day" was organized, during which a special lecture was given to the students by Dr. Vikas Malik, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography. 46This event was conducted with the cooperation of the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of the college. 47

  • On January 24, 2025, "National Voters' Day" was organized, during which a voter's pledge ceremony was held under the chairmanship of Principal Dr. Seema Thakran. 48The theme of this day was "Nothing like a vote, we will definitely vote." 49

  • On January 25, 2025, and January 26, 2025, "National Festival Republic Day" was organized, during which cultural performances were given by students through patriotic songs, hymns, poems, and speeches. 50Principal Dr. Seema Thakran hoisted the tricolor. 51

  • On April 22, 2025, "Earth Day" was organized under the chairmanship of Principal Dr. Seema Thakran, with the theme "It's Our Power, It's Our Planet." 52This activity was done by the Important Day Committee with the help of the Geography Department. 53


Developed India Campaign


  • The in-charge of the Developed India Campaign is Smt. Sangeeta, Assistant Professor (Department of Geography). 54 The following activities were organized for this purpose:

  • Under the "Developed India Youth Festival-2025," college student Simran, a third-year B.A. student, participated in a district-level online competition and was included in the list of 108 winners out of 560. 55To participate in the next stage, she took part in the state-level competition at SD College, Panipat. 56


Internal Quality Assurance Cell


  • The in-charge of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell is Dr. Jyoti Raj, Professor (English Department). 57 The following activities were organized under this cell:

  • A workshop on communication skills was held from October 7, 2024, to October 11, 2024. 58

  • A parent-teacher meeting was held on February 21, 2025. 59

  • A reading and writing program was held on March 5, 2025. 60

  • A guidance program related to mock interviews for final-year students of the college was organized on April 11, 2025. 61


Mentorship Group


  • Dr. Jyoti Raj, Professor (English Department), is the Senior Mentor of the college, and other faculty members are also mentors for one group each. 62

  • The objective is to strengthen the relationship between teachers and students and to bring out the students' capabilities. 63Mentors solve the personal and academic problems of the students and remain in continuous contact with them. 64


Right to Information Act, 2005


  • For the Right to Information Act, 2005, Dr. Seema Thakran, Principal, is the First Appellate Authority in the college, and Dr. Jyoti Raj, Senior Professor, English Department, is the State Public Information Officer. 65

  • Information related to the Right to Information is provided to the applicants on time. 66


Women's Cell


  • The in-charge of the Women's Cell is Dr. Geeta Rani, Assistant Professor (Department of Commerce). 67 The following activities were organized by this cell:

  • A yoga workshop was organized from January 20, 2025, to January 30, 2025, in which students participated enthusiastically. 68

  • On the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8, 2025, a lecture was organized by the District Legal Cell (NALSA) to create awareness about women's rights. 69


Cultural Activities


  • The in-charge of cultural activities is Dr. Priyanka, Assistant Professor (Department of Economics). 70 The following activities were organized for this purpose:

  • A talent search program was organized on August 21, 2024, in which all the students participated enthusiastically. 71

  • Unifest 2024-25 was organized by Tau Devi Lal Government College for Women on October 22, 23, and 24, 2024. 72

  • In this festival, the college students gave an excellent display of talent and won 10 first, 5 second, and 5 third prizes. 73

  • The college received the Overall Runner-up Trophy. 74

  • Kiran, a second-year B.A. student, secured second place in the 38th AIU Inter-University National Youth Festival 2024-25 and third place in the 38th AIU Inter-University North West Zone Youth Festival 2024-25. 75

  • A cultural program, Swaranjali, was organized in the college on February 1, 2025, in which the students participated enthusiastically. 76


Road Safety Campaign


  • The in-charge of the Road Safety Campaign is Dr. Sunil Kumar Panwar. 77Under this campaign, college students were given information on road safety rules. 78

  • A one-day awareness rally was organized, and a quiz competition was also held. 79


Red Ribbon Club / Youth Red Cross / Red Cross Society


  • The counselor of the Red Ribbon Club/Red Cross Society is Smt. Rashmi Devi, Assistant Professor (English Department). 80 The following activities were organized by this club:

  • Anti-Drug Campaign (August 12, 2024): An anti-drug campaign was organized by our college's YRC unit on the topic "Mantra of Developed India - Let India be free from drugs." 81The following activities were organized under this program: 82

  • Students gave a message against drug use by forming a human chain. 84

  • A poster-making competition was organized to spread awareness among students. 85

  • The in-charge of the Alumni Meet is Smt. Ankit, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography. 90

  • An alumni meet was organized in the college on February 24, 2025, where 40 former students were present. 91

  • In this ceremony, former students shared their career experiences with other students and guided them. 92


Placement Cell


  • The in-charge of the Placement Cell is Dr. Sandeep Dahiya, Assistant Professor (Department of Geography). 93

  • An extension lecture was organized under the college's placement cell on February 20, 2025. 94

  • Dr. Satish Kumar, Assistant Professor of Commerce from Delhi University, gave a lecture on preparing for competitive exams after graduation. 95


Legal Literacy Cell


  • The president of this cell is Dr. Sushila, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce. 96 The following were done by this cell:

  • On the occasion of International Mother Language Day on February 21, 2025, the Legal Literacy Cell and the Hindi Department jointly organized essay writing, speech, and poetry recitation competitions in the college, in which 47, 16, and 22 students participated, respectively. 97

  • On the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8, 2025, a lecture was organized by the District Legal Cell (NALSA) to create awareness about women's rights. 98

  • On April 18, 2025, the Legal Literacy Cell organized poster-making, slogan writing, and quiz competitions in which 17, 17, and 22 students participated, respectively. 99

  • On July 24, 2024, students participated in legal literacy programs at the division level. 100

  • This competition was organized by Government College, Sampla (Rohtak). 101

  • Muskan, a student of the college, secured second place in the essay writing competition, and Aarti, Simran, and Khushi secured third place in the quiz competition, registering their participation in the state-level competitions. 102

  • Smt. Sarita, Assistant Professor (Mathematics Department), is the Bursar of this college and is performing this duty with dedication. 103


National Cadet Corps (NCC)


  • A unit of the National Cadet Corps is active in the college, and its Care Taker Officer is Smt. Jyoti, Assistant Professor (Department of Geography). 104

  • The objective of the National Cadet Corps is to inspire students to serve the nation. 105

  • The activities and achievements organized under the guidance of the Program Officer in the college are as follows:

  • The college has 50 NCC cadets who are striving to spread awareness in society through various activities. 106

  • On August 12, 2024, NCC cadets made posters related to voter awareness and took out a rally to spread awareness in the village of Murthal, making people aware of the importance of voting and encouraging them to vote as much as possible. 107

  • On October 15, 2024, a poster-making competition on drug de-addiction was organized, in which the cadets gave a message on how to get rid of the harmful effects of drugs. 108

  • On November 19, 2024, a street play related to drug de-addiction and drug awareness was organized by NCC cadets. 109Through this street play, the cadets very effectively explained the impact of the ill effects of drugs on society. 110

  • On the occasion of National Youth Day on January 12, 2025, the ideas of Swami Vivekananda were presented, in which NCC cadets participated enthusiastically and gave a message to the youth to stay aware, expressing the spirit of nationalism. 111

  • On International Women's Day on March 8, 2025, a poster-making competition was organized in which NCC cadets showcased women's empowerment through different posters. 112


National Service Scheme (NSS)


  • A unit of the National Service Scheme is active in the college, and its Program Officer is Smt. Meenu, Assistant Professor (Department of History). 113

  • The objective of NSS is to inspire students to serve the nation. 114

  • A voter awareness rally was organized on August 13, 2024. 115

  • The work of the college library is done under the supervision of Smt. Anu, Assistant Professor (Department of Commerce). 139

  • The library has a total of 17,907 books. 140

  • 7 daily national newspapers and 10 magazines are subscribed to in the library. 141

  • A reading room for students is also well-organized in the library. 142

  • For its maintenance, Smt. Lalita, Restorer, is working on a contract basis. 143

  • The college library also has an online e-library facility. 144Under this, the college library has taken membership in the INFLIBNET online library of the Human Resource Development Department. 145


Special Achievements of the College


  • From October 22 to 24, 2024, the cultural program Unifest 2024 of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, Khanpur, was organized in the college. 146

  • On January 18, 2025, a national seminar was organized in the college, in which about 500 researchers from the state presented their research papers. 147

  • On February 8, 2025, an inter-class science exhibition was organized in the college, in which students from the departments of Chemistry, Physics, Computer, Geography, and Psychology participated. 148

  • On April 19, 2025, the third convocation and annual prize distribution ceremony were organized in the college, in which 178 students were awarded degrees and 126 students were awarded prizes. 149

  • Dr. Sandeep Dahiya, Dr. Kanika, and Dr. Rohit Kumar working in the college obtained their Ph.D. degrees. 150

  • A new laboratory for the subject of Mathematics was established in the college. 151

  • On the topic "Utility of Mathematics in Real Life": Shivani B.Sc. Third Year got first place and Kumkum B.Sc. First Year got second place. 162

  • On March 21, 2025, a lecture on the topic of Personality Development was organized by the Mathematics Department. 163Harsha Goyal and Vineet Sharma, professors at Hindu College, presented their views on "How to develop the inner self of students," in which more than 69 students participated. 164

  • On April 9, 2025, a Slogan Writing, Poster Writing, and Student Seminar were organized by the Mathematics Department on the topic of "Utility of Mathematics," in which 39 students showcased their talent. 165

  • The Head of the Hindi Department is Dr. Poonam Devi. 169 The following activities were organized by this department:

  • On September 13, 2024, on the occasion of Hindi Day (September 14), the Hindi Department organized a poetry recitation, speech competition, and debate competition, in which students participated enthusiastically. 170

  • On the occasion of International Mother Language Day on February 21, 2025, the Legal Literacy Cell and the Hindi Department jointly organized essay writing, speech, and poetry recitation competitions in the college, in which 47, 16, and 22 students participated, respectively. 171

  • On February 8, 2025, an inter-class science exhibition was organized at the department level, in which five models were made by the geography students. 176

  • The Head of the History Department is Dr. Seema Thakran. 177 The following activities were organized by this department:

  • On March 1, 2025, a study tour was organized for the students to the historical places of Delhi, in joint collaboration with the History and Political Science Departments. 178

  • On March 2, 2025, the History Department organized a letter reading competition, poster making competition, and quiz competition, in which Team Simran got first place, Team Khushi got second place, and Team Varsha got third place. 179179179

  • In the letter reading competition, Manisha got first place, Mansi got second place, and Anjali got third place. 180

  • In the poster making competition, Kiran got first place, Varsha got second place, and Sakshi got third place. 181


Commerce Department


  • The Head of the Commerce Department is Dr. Sushila. 182 The following activities were organized by this department:

  • On February 6, 2025, a documentary film on Dhirubhai Ambani was shown to the students. 183 This film inspired them to work hard and take risks to achieve their goals. 59 students participated enthusiastically in this. 184

  • On February 6, 2025, a lecture was organized by Chartered Accountant Smt. Binu Tyagi, in which 59 students participated enthusiastically. 185

  • On February 19, 2025, a lecture on the topic "Employment Opportunities in the Banking Sector" was organized by Shri Jitender Pal Singh, Vice President, Axis Bank, in which 67 students participated. 186

  • On February 19, 2025, a workshop on IPR was organized by the Commerce Department, in which Dr. Vandana Nasa of Government Women's College, Sonipat, was the main speaker. 74 students participated in this. 187

  • On March 21, 2025, an investor awareness program was organized. 188 Smt. Nisha Khurana from Krisha Foundation was the main speaker. 59 students participated in this. 189


Political Science Department


  • The Head of the Political Science Department is Shri Dharamveer. 190 The following activities were organized by this department:

  • On November 26, 2024, on the occasion of "My Constitution, My Pride," a program of the Haryana government, students were introduced to the Preamble of the Indian Constitution, in which students and staff members of the college participated. 191On the launch of the 'Samvidhan Samvad' (Constitution Dialogue) run by the government, Dr. Dharamveer, Head of the Political Science Department, gave information about the ethical and legal values of democracy, which are bound together in unity and integrity. 192

  • On September 2, a lecture was given to B.A. students on the topic, "How to use modern education tools" under the 'New National Education Policy', in which along with media, information about e-content was also given. 193

  • On March 1, 2024, a study tour was organized by the Political Science Department to the Rashtrapati Bhavan, India Gate, and Rajghat in Delhi to ensure the mental development of the students along with their education. 194The sight of happy students made the objective of education seem fulfilled. 195


Computer Science Department


  • The Head of the Computer Science Department is Shri Amit Kumar Kaushik. 196 The following activities were organized by this department:

  • The Computer Science Department organized a poster-making, slogan writing, and essay writing competition on February 28, 2025, on the occasion of National Science Day, with the theme "Role of AI in Preventing Cyber Crime," in which more than 50 students participated in various competitions. 197

  • Essay Writing: Seema (PGDCA-Sem-II) got first place, Vaishali (PGDCA-II Sem) got second place, and Kashish (BSc-I) got third place. 198

  • Poster Writing: Manu (BA-I) got first place, Devi (BSc-I) got second, while Kumkum (BSc-I) got third place. 199

  • Vaishali (PGDCA-Sem-II) got second and Deepa (BA I) got third place. 200

  • BSc-II Sem students Kumkum and Devi participated in the DHE-sponsored inter-district science exhibition organized at Pandit Nekiram Sharma Government College, Rohtak, on February 13, 2025, and showcased a computer science project "Based on Wireless Sensor Network and Cloud Computing." 201


Physics Department


  • The Head of the Physics Department is Smt. Suman Lata. 202 The following activities were organized by this department:

  • An essay writing competition was organized on September 30, 2024, in which Shiwani of B.Sc-III got first place, Kiran of B.Sc-II got second place, and Rachna of B.Sc-III got third place. 203

  • A Physics Quiz was organized on October 1, 2024, in which Ravita & Riya of B.Sc-III got first place, Santosh & Sania of B.Sc-I got second place, and Ritika & Ritika of B.Sc-II got third place. 204

  • A slogan writing competition was organized on October 1, 2024, in which Kumkum of B.Sc-I got first place, Devi of B.Sc-I got second place, and Ashan of B.Sc-III got third place. 205

  • A College Level Science Exhibition was organized on February 8, 2025. 206In which Reetu & Riya of B.Sc III got first place. 207

  • Students participated in the inter-district science exhibition organized at Pandit NRS Government College Rohtak on February 13, 2025. 208


English Department


  • The Head of the English Department is Dr. Jyoti Raj. 209 The following activities were organized by this department:

  • A letter reading competition was organized on October 9, 2024, on the topic of effective communication skills. 210

  • A poetry recitation was organized on January 29, 2025. 211

  • Pre-written entries were taken for essay writing on the topic of AI on February 25, 2025. 212

  • On April 3, 2025, the syllabus-based film "The Namesake" was screened for the students of M.A. English. 213
